What was that? Though my blog writing has been amusing to only me, I wouldn't actually consider that writing. Sure, it's a form of self-expression, but it's not writing as an art-form, career, or any of those things. So I'll say it another way that makes a little more sense.
You're not a screenwriter unless you have actually written a screenplay.
Yikes.
I think it's best to approach this realistically, call a spade a spade, and just do it. Enough on that.
Tonight is a free class at the River Run Film Festival at North Carolina School of the Arts. It's about adapting a novel into a screenplay, so it should be very helpful. I've been toying with the idea of whether to do an adaptation first or an original. On one hand, adaptations already have most of the key information in there, and require more editing than anything while putting your own original spin on things. On the other hand, original screenplays are of course your original creation, and this could come up later, there a heck of a lot cheaper than having to worry about subsidiary rights and lawyers and publishers galore.
So here it is. Time to have a go at it while I can.
